BSNL employees seek PM's help; demand change of top brass

NEW DELHI: Upset by deteriorating market share and falling revenues, the employees' associations of BSNL have sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's
intervention and demanded change in management and induction of professionals in the Board to run the PSU.

"We have written to the Prime Minister's Office to look into the matter among other things. There is absence of professional management at the Board level at BSNL," the President of All India Graduate Engineer Telecom Officers Association (AIGETOA), NJP Shilohu Rao, said.

The association (AIGETOA) represents over 10,000 graduate engineers and account professionals at BSNL.

"We are also planning to meet Sam Pitroda, who is the IT adviser to the Prime Minister, and raise these issue with him," he added.

This comes in the wake of BSNL's deteriorating market share in the last various quarters and has come down to fourth place after Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and RCom. Even revenues have taken a hit last year.

BSNL's revenues dipped by about 12 per cent in 2008-09 to over Rs 33,000 crore but its market share, especially in the mobile telephony, took a bigger hit.

Drawing comparison between another ailing PSU Air India, the association said, "The decision to employ prominent and professionally well qualified COO in place of old brass is path-breaking in the history of public sector enterprises.

Raja urges PM to clear, fast-track BSNL tender

Telecom Minister Andimuthu Raja has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of BSNL’s mega GSM tender, seeking his intervention to protect BSNL’s market share, CNBC-TV18 reports quoting sources.
BSNL, in 2007, floated a tender to buy 93 million GSM lines and Raja, it is learnt, has written to the PM the tender is “very important” for BSNL’s future. Recently, some reports suggested the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) had suggested a quick retender.
Sources said Raja assured the PM that all procedures were followed in the BSNL order process and that an independent committee may look into the tender.

Expected DA from 1.7.2010

Also I have calculated expected DA w.e.f 01.07.2010, without considering any change in Index nos. That comes to 9% minimum. So we may get more than 9% w.e.f 01.07.2010

DA wef 1.1.2010

Just as we expected. The All India Consumer Price Index number for (Industrial Workers) (Base 2001=100) for the month of December 2009 is 169 as announced by Statistics Department, Labour, Government of India.

Consequently, we can easily calculate the Dearness Allowance rate applicable for Central Government Employees as well Central Government pensioners with effect from 01.01.2010, using the GConnect DA Calculating tool by entering CPI Index (which is 169) in the box provided for the month of December-2009 and then by clicking the button “Calculate DA Jan 10″.

Yes. As calculated by you, the eligible DA rate with effect from 01.01.2010 is 35%. So, we may expect an increase in the DA rate to the tune of 8% from Jan 2010. Normally, the eligible DA Rate will be approved by the Cabinet and thereafter will be officially declared in the month of March every year.
